Reliable laboratory work depends on careful processes, technical competence and continual improvement. Accreditation identifies the medical testing activities independently assessed against a defined standard.
The work behind every result
NHRTI’s laboratory quality system supports documented methods, review of technical performance and improvement of laboratory services. These responsibilities connect patient testing, reference work and scientific investigation.
Accredited laboratory disciplines and testing
SADCAS certificate MED 032 identifies NHRTI’s medical laboratory at Ndola Teaching Hospital, floors 6 and 7, under ISO 15189:2022. Its scope includes:
Clinical chemistry
Examples: albumin, glucose, creatinine, cholesterol, urea and liver-related chemistry.
Haematology
Blood counts and indices, including haemoglobin and platelets.
Immunology
HIV rapid testing and RPR.
Microbiology
Urine and pus-swab investigation; bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
Molecular biology
SARS-CoV-2 testing by real-time PCR.
Mycobacteriology
AFB microscopy, TB culture, drug-susceptibility testing and line-probe assays.
Parasitology
Malaria microscopy.
These are examples. The official schedule defines the samples and methods covered. Water analysis is not listed in this medical testing scope.

Consistent processes
Documented methods and attention to each stage of laboratory work.
Technical review
Review of performance and the handling of service enquiries.
Continual improvement
Internal review and external assessment help identify what can improve.
Helping laboratories learn together
NHRTI’s bacteriology proficiency testing work supports laboratories in assessing performance. Management review considers the quality system, sustainability and alignment with ISO/IEC 17043:2023 requirements.
