Act 13 of 2024 re-designates the Tropical Diseases Research Centre as NHRTI and defines its core role in health research, training, and technical support.
- Conducting and coordinating health research and related training, with emphasis on improving quality of life.
- Establishing and managing the National Health Research Laboratory.
- Creating a Health Research Data Repository for national health research outputs.
- Developing and evaluating technologies, strategies, and products for disease prevention and control.
- Supporting innovation, patent/IP pathways, and technology transfer in health research.
- Promoting and managing Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine research in the national framework.
It also establishes Board and Expert Advisory structures to govern the Institute’s scientific and operational direction.
